UPDATE: The Catholic Gentleman Book

For some time now, I have been talking about the release of my book, The Catholic Gentleman: Living Authentic Manhood Today. I originally was informed by my publisher that the release would take place at the end of April, around Easter. Amazon also reflected this release date, and many of you who pre-ordered the book were expecting to have it by now. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Here’s what is going on.

Spring is a busy season for book launches, and as a result, I just found out that there were unexpected printing and production delays for The Catholic Gentleman. This means that Amazon and other book sellers don’t have the book yet. This means the book should actually launch around May 11.

I sincerely apologize to all of you who were expecting to have the book in your hands by now. That said, it is coming very soon and I am confident that it will be worth the wait!

Catholic Men, Let’s Rise Up

Being a man today can be confusing. We are shamed for our “toxic masculinity” and told we should be less masculine if we want to get ahead in life. Fathers are mocked in TV and movies, and men in general are often portrayed as either low-functioning, ill-bred beasts, or as cruel and violent. Add to this the pressures on men to perform, to succeed, and to never show weakness or vulnerability, and it is no wonder men are struggling to live up to their full potential.

The truth is, the world needs men. And the Church needs men. Our masculine vocation, our unique gifts are given to us by God. We are called to be sons, brothers, fathers, and spouses; to be leaders in our homes, in our workplaces, and in our parishes.

Now more than ever, it is critical for us men to discover our true identity, embrace it, and live it. It is time for us to rise up and be who God has called us to be. That’s why I’m exited to share RISE: A 30 Day Challenge.

RISE is designed for men like you, men with busy schedules and many commitments. It’s designed to help you reconnect with your identity and grow as a man of God in just a few short minutes a day.

I recently sat down with Chris Stefanick of Real Life Catholic to talk about what inspired him to create RISE, what you can expect, and his hopes for every man who takes the challenge.

What are you waiting for? Embrace our identity. Rise up and take the challenge.

The next RISE challenge begins tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.

“Nearly all our social crises can be chalked up to a crisis in manhood. Problems like rampant pornography, juvenile delinquency, and dwindling marriage rates can only be solved if virtuous men rise up and embrace their manly call. Be Not Afraid is the stew to feed this uprising. If you’re a man who wants to live a more noble and heroic life, drink up these quotes and let them saturate your mind and heart.”
– Brandon Vogt, author and blogger at BrandonVogt.com

Knowing and following Jesus is not easy. We Catholic men are bombarded from all sides with temptations and distractions, all seeking to derail our path to manly holiness. No one knows Christ better than the saints, and in “Be Not Afraid: A Book of Quotes for Catholic Men”, Sam Guzman has provided us with an invaluable collection of powerful quotes from the great saints of the Church, men like Pope St. John Paul II, St. Augustine, St. Padre Pio, and St. John Vianney. Pick this book up, take it with you wherever you go, read it in a spare moment when you need encouragement to live in a heroically virtuous way.
– Devin Rose, author and blogger at St. Joseph’s Vanguard.

I’ve always enjoyed following the Catholic Gentleman for the wonderful images and inspiring quotes from the saints. Some of my favorite quotes from the Early Church Fathers I actually saw first on his blog. So I’m very excited to have all of these quotes here together!

A Fraternitas Update

fraternitasAt the beginning of the month, I announced Fraternitas, a community for Catholic men. If you missed the announcement, here are the basics: For a low monthly fee, Fraternitas will help you build your Catholic library, meet other brothers in Christ, form a local chapter in your community, and give you access to exclusive webinars with Catholic leaders, among other things. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I promised more details would be coming, so here’s another quick update.

Limited Access

I was absolutely blown away by the number of you interested in Fraternitas. In the first couple of days after the announcement, over 750 of you submitted your email saying you wanted to join! That brings the number of you eligible to signup to 2,983. Wow.

As I mentioned previously, signups will open on June 27, the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Originally, I had planned to limit signups to 50 charter memberships, but due to the amount of interest, I have upped that number to 100 charter memberships. Be sure to sign up early on the 27th. With nearly 3,000 of you eligible, the open spots will go fast. If you haven’t submitted your email yet, do so using the form below to make sure you can get in on launch day.

Bonus Gifts

As a special thank you, our first 50 Fraternitas members will be receiving some special gifts: The beautiful and sturdy Catholic Gentleman one decade rosary, as well as some official buttons and stickers.

Coming Soon: Fraternitas, a Place for Men

fraternitasOne warm summer night, I sat with a group of Catholic friends inside a local pub. The low light shone dimly on the wood paneled walls, the air thick with the roar of conversation. “A toast to the kingdom,” one of said as we clinked our frothy pint glasses, filled to the brim with various ales and porters. “And to our Lady,” another added enthusiastically.

For the next several hours, we laughed and argued, discussed and pondered. We talked about our jobs. Our families. Our dreams. And most of all, our faith.

As we left to go our separate ways, we parted as brothers—strengthened, encouraged, and proud to be Catholic.

A Band of Brothers

There are few things as enjoyable or encouraging as this kind of faith-filled camaraderie with other Catholic men. Just being together, arguing about big ideas, smoking and drinking, having a good time—all unified in a common bond of faith.

Brotherhood. We need it. We thrive on it. And truth be told, most of us don’t have it.

I want to change that. Today, I am announcing a new society for men that seeks to provide the community and camaraderie. I’m calling it Fraternitas. I’m launching Fraternitas because now, more than ever, we need to be a unified in faith, a band of brothers marching shoulder to shoulder to the kingdom of heaven.

How it Works

What is Fraternitas you ask? First and foremost, Fraternitas is a place exclusively for men. Here’s how it works:

  • Book of the Month: Each month you’ll receive a high quality, hand-picked Catholic book from an trusted publisher. These books will be about things like leadership, family, virtue, spiritual growth, prayer, and much more.
  • Discussion Forums: You will get access to exclusive discussion forums where you can meet other Catholic gentlemen from around the world. Think of it as an online pub.
  • Exclusive Webinars: We’ll feature a live webinar each month where you’ll learn new skills and get to interact with Catholic leaders. It’ll be a lot of fun.
  • The Gentleman’s List: It’s a monthly newsletter featuring worthy apostolates, finely crafted products, Catholic resources, and more.
  • Local Chapters: Online communities are great, but there’s nothing like meeting in person. As a member of Fraternitas, you’ll have the opportunity to start a local chapter in your area. You can talk about the book of the month using provided discussion questions, or just have a beer with other Catholic men.
  • Discounts and Early Access: You’ll be the first to know about upcoming Catholic Gentleman products. And you’ll get a special member discount.
  • Mass Said for Your Intentions: There’s no prayer more powerful than the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Each month, a priest will say Mass for your intentions.

There’s more, but I’ll be sharing more details as the date approaches.

How You Can Join

I’m launching Fraternitas on June 27, the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual help. At the start, membership will be limited. Readers who are subscribed to my e-mail list will be given the first opportunity to sign up. That’s 2,203 of you.

If you haven’t registered for my e-mail list, sign up using the form below to make sure you’ll be eligible when registration opens.

Stay tuned. I look forward to sharing more about Fraternitas in the days ahead.
